Escada, Pichay Break School Records at New England Championships
BOSTON — The Holy Cross men’s track and field team competed on the final day of the New England Championships on Saturday, February 2, highlighted by school record-breaking performances from senior Alexander Escada and sophomore Michael Pichay.
Escada broke the school record in the heptathlon, scoring 4,629 points and placing fourth. He won the 60 meter hurdles portion of the heptathlon, in a time of 8.81 seconds, while also reaching a mark of 3.50 meters in the pole vault. He ended the day running 2:50.44 in the 1,000 meters.
Pichay broke his own school record set earlier this year in the triple jump, posting a leap of 14.98 meters and placing third overall.
Holy Cross also had season-best times in the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays. The 4x400 team of senior Jacob Newton, senior Brandon Thornhill, sophomore Gabe Piepergerdes and junior Freddie Halloran ran a time of 3:23.38, placing 11th overall. In the 4x800, freshman Will Hornyak, freshman Corey Kumamoto, sophomore Peter Mitchell and sophomore Hayden Ivatts ran a time of 7:56.88, placing ninth.
The Crusaders return to action on February 9 at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
