Men's Basketball Travels to American on Saturday
The Holy Cross men's basketball team plays its second straight road game when it heads to American for a 2:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, Feb. 2. The game between the Crusaders and the Eagles will be shown live on the Patriot League Network, and can be heard on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
Holy Cross stands 12-10 overall this year with a 3-6 mark in the Patriot League. The Crusaders have lost six of their last eight games, including a 68-54 setback at Boston University on Wednesday night. Holy Cross currently leads the Patriot League in assists (16.9 assists per game), turnover margin (+3.5 turnovers per game) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.6-to-1).
Sophomore guard Jacob Grandison has led the team by averaging 14.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game, while sophomore guard Austin Butler has added 13.4 points, 4.5 boards and 1.5 steals per contest. Sophomore guard Caleb Green has put up 11.4 points, 3.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game, with senior forward Jehyve Floyd posting 11.1 points, 6.0 boards, 3.6 assists and 2.4 blocks per contest.
American stands 11-9 overall this year with a 5-4 mark in Patriot League play. The Eagles have won three straight games, and are coming off a 74-68 victory at Loyola (Md.) on Wednesday night.
Junior guard Sa'eed Nelson has led the team by averaging 19.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game, while hitting 48.7 percent of his field goal attempts. Sophomore forward Sam Iorio has added 14.2 points and 6.5 boards per contest, while junior center Mark Gasperini is chipping in with 10.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. American is led by head coach Mike Brennan, who stands 74-103 in six seasons with the Eagles.
After the contest at American, the Crusaders will return home to face Army West Point at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
