The Holy Cross women’s basketball team returns home to host Loyola (Md.) on Saturday, January 12 in Patriot League action. Tipoff is set for 12:05 p.m. at the Hart Center.

‘Sader Saturday:

  • Holy Cross will host four total home events on Saturday. In addition to the women’s basketball game, the Crusaders also host Maine in women’s hockey at 1:05 p.m., Lafayette in men’s basketball at 3:05 p.m. and Niagara in men’s hockey at 7:05 p.m.
  • Admission to all four games is available for the price of just one ticket, at $12.
  • Additionally, any child age 12 or younger wearing a jersey to Saturday’s games will receive free admission to all four games. 

Things to Know About the Crusaders (8-6, 0-3 Patriot League):

  • Despite playing a tight contest at Lehigh on Wednesday, January 9 that was tied after three quarters, Holy Cross fell late to the Mountain Hawks by a score of 64-55.
  • Junior Megan Swords had her fourth double-double of the year with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Lauren Manis led all scorers with 15 points and added eight rebounds. Freshman Avery LaBarbera was also in double digits with 10 points.
  • Holy Cross owns a 5-2 record at home this season.
  • Through three conference games so far this year, Holy Cross averages the most rebounds per contest in Patriot League play, with an average of 44.3 boards per game. The Crusaders also out-rebound their opponents by a margin of +7.7.
  • Junior Madalyn Smith has averaged 6.3 assists per game in league play, ranking first in the Patriot League. She has posted five or more assists in each of her three Patriot League contests this year, including six against Lehigh.

Things to Know About the Greyhounds (1-13, 0-3 Patriot League):

  • Loyola is also off to a 0-3 start in conference play, most recently falling in overtime against Boston University on Wednesday.
  • The Greyhounds outscored the Terriers 40-23 in the second half, but ultimately fell by two, 64-62, in overtime.
  • Isabella Therien had 21 points to lead all scorers, while Stephanie Karcz had a double-double of 12 points and 20 rebounds.
  • Therien leads the team with an average of 11.5 points per game.
  • Karcz, the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year in 2017-18, also ranks among the league’s leaders in steals (first, 4.4 per game), offensive rebounds (first, 4.3 per game), total rebounds (fourth, 11.1 per game) and assists (fourth, 3.2 per game). She ranks third in Division I with 61 total steals this year.

Last Time They Met:

  • Loyola swept Holy Cross in the season series a year ago, with the Crusaders falling on the road, 77-60, on January 8, 2018 and dropping the home contest, 65-58, on February 3, 2018.
  • Manis led the team with 18 points and nine rebounds on the road, and posted 22 points and 15 rebounds in the home game.
  • Karcz posted a double-double of 21 points and 19 rebounds with four steals in the contest in Baltimore, and had eight points, 14 rebounds, eight assists and six steals in Worcester. Therien averaged 19 points between the two contests.
