Men's Basketball Wraps Up Road Trip at Navy
The Holy Cross men’s basketball team concludes a five-day road trip with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Navy on Sunday, Jan. 6. The game between the Crusaders and the Midshipmen will be shown live on the Patriot League Network, and can be heard on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
Holy Cross stands 10-4 overall with a 1-0 mark in the Patriot League, and has won nine of its last 11 games. Currently on a four-game winning streak, the Crusaders are coming off an 80-73 victory at Loyola (Md.) on Thursday. Holy Cross leads the Patriot League in scoring defense (66.4 points per game), assists (17.9 assists per game), turnover margin (+3.2 turnovers per game) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.6-to-1).
Sophomore guard Jacob Grandison has led the team by averaging 15.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game, while sophomore guard Austin Butler has added 12.6 points and 4.3 boards per contest. Four other Crusaders are averaging at least six points, led by sophomore guard Caleb Green (11.9 points per game).
Navy stands 4-8 overall this year with a 1-0 mark in Patriot League play. The Midshipmen snapped a three-game losing streak with a 72-66 victory over Colgate on Thursday.
Senior forward George Kiernan has led the team by averaging 12.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while hitting 87.5 percent of his free throws. Sophomore guard Cam Davis is also off to a strong start this year, with averages of 11.3 points, 2.5 boards and 1.8 assists per contest. Navy is led by head coach Ed DeChellis, who stands 92-139 in eight seasons with the Midshipmen.
After the contest at Navy, the Crusaders will play their first Patriot League home game of the season against Lehigh on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 7:05 p.m.
