BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior forward Jehyve Floyd totaled 20 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Holy Cross men’s basketball team to an 80-73 victory over Loyola (Md.) at Reitz Arena. Floyd set a new career high for rebounds, along with a season high for points. The Crusaders improve to 10-4 overall and 1-0 in the Patriot League with the win, while the Greyhounds fall to 4-10 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.

Holy Cross made 51.0 percent of its field goal attempts, 44.4 percent of its three-pointers and 71.4 percent of its free throws on the night, while recording assists on 19 of its 26 made field goals. The Greyhounds were able to connect on 52.0 percent of their shots from the floor and 76.2 percent of their attempts at the charity stripe, but made only 27.8 percent of their three-pointers.

The Crusaders opened the game by hitting eight of their first 12 field goal attempts, while jumping out to an early 18-6 lead. Holy Cross would extend the margin to 16 points (31-15) with two minutes left before the break, but Loyola closed out the half with a 10-1 run to make the score 32-25 heading into the locker room.

The Greyhounds trimmed the margin to three points (32-29) early in the second half, and were later down 38-32 with 15:56 left to play. The Crusaders then used a 15-4 spurt to take a commanding 53-26 lead with 11 minutes remaining. Holy Cross eventually led by 18 (58-40) and was still up by 15 (62-47) with seven minutes to go, when Loyola scored eight straight points to make things interesting. But the Crusaders would drain 11 of 12 foul shots in the final three minutes to hold on for the victory.

Sophomore guard Caleb Green finished with 16 points, five assists, three steals and two rebounds on the night. Sophomore guard Austin Butler added 15 points and two steals, while sophomore guard Jacob Grandison posted 13 points, four assists and two steals. The Greyhounds were led by Andrew Kostecka with 29 points, including 19 points in the final nine minutes.

The Crusaders will return to action on Sunday, Jan. 6, when they head to Navy for a 1:00 p.m. game.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Holy Cross improves to 17-12 all-time in Patriot League openers, but won for just the second time in the last seven years.
• Floyd’s 15 rebounds were the most by a Crusader in a single-game since Karl Charles had 15 rebounds against Army West Point on Jan. 20, 2016.
• Holy Cross hit at least 50 percent of its field goal attempts for the third straight game and the sixth time this season, with a perfect 6-0 record in those games.
• The Crusaders won their opening Patriot League road game for the first time since defeating Army West Point 68-54 in 2011.
