Women's Track and Field to Compete at URI Pentathlon, Husky Invite

The Holy Cross women’s track and field team will compete at a pair of meets this weekend: the University of Rhode Island Pentathlon, set for Friday, December 7 in Kingston, Rhode Island, and the Howlin’ Husky Invitational, scheduled for Saturday, December 8 in Boston at the Reggie Lewis Center.

LAST TIME OUT:

  • Holy Cross kicked off the 2018-19 season at the Boston University Season Opener meet on December 1.
  • Sophomore Christa Jay Moore highlighted the day with a victory in the pole vault, with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 3.80 meters.
  • Sophomore Abbie Mokwuah also posted an ECAC mark in the shot put, finishing fourth with a mark of 13.82 meters. She was also fourth in the weight throw, with a New England-qualifying mark of 16.19 meters.
  • Junior Allie Smiley finished fifth in the long jump, posting a New England-qualifying mark of 5.48 meters.
  • Senior Sarah Friess was seventh in the 60 meter dash with a New England-qualifying time of 7.88 seconds.
  • Junior Taylor Gensler finished seventh in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles, posting a New England-qualifying time of 9.17 seconds. Junior Morgan Sanders was 12th in the prelims, also with a New England-qualifying mark of 9.25 seconds.

 

LAST YEAR:

  • At the URI Pentathlon on December 8, 2017, Sanders placed seventh with a total of 3056 points. Her performance was highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the long jump.
  • Then-freshman Sydney McDonald placed ninth with 2793 points, placing fourth in the high jump.
  • At the Husky Invite, several athletes had New England-qualifying performances.
  • Then-junior Alexandra Curtin finished first in the 60m (7.78). Curtin also qualified for the New England Championships with a second-place finish in the long jump (5.67 meters). 
  • Smiley placed second in the 60m dash (7.84) and first in the long jump (5.69 meters). 
  • Friess finished fourth in the 60m dash (7.92).
  • Moore won the pole vault (3.50 meters).
