Men's Basketball to Open Season Against Sacred Heart
The Holy Cross men’s basketball team will begin the 2018-2019 campaign when plays host to Sacred Heart at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The contest between the Crusaders and the Pioneers can be seen online through the Patriot League Network, and will also air live on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
The Crusaders are entering their fourth year under head coach Bill Carmody, and are coming off a 2017-2018 season in which they went 12-19 overall and placed sixth in the Patriot League with an 8-10 mark in conference games. Senior forward Jehyve Floyd looks to lead the team this winter, after being named third team All-Patriot League and earning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2017-2018. Floyd averaged a team-best 12.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.2 blocked shots per contest last season, while making 68.8 percent of his field goal attempts.
Almost every other key player off last year’s team is back, including sophomore guard Austin Butler (9.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game), sophomore guard Jacob Grandison (9.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 0.8 steals per contest), sophomore guard Caleb Green (8.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game) and senior guard Patrick Benzan (6.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per contest).
Sacred Heart is coming off a 2017-2018 season in which it went 10-21 overall and finished ninth in the Northeast Conference with a 5-13 record. The Pioneers will be led by senior guard Sean Hoehn, who averaged 13.1 points and 4.2 assists per game last year while hitting 79.2 percent of his free throw attempts. Junior guard Kinnon LaRose is also back after putting up 9.2 points and 3.7 rebounds in 2017-2018.
After the contest with Sacred Heart, Holy Cross will open play in the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m.
