Peter Burke Elevated to Interim Head Coach
WORCESTER, Mass. – Director of Athletics Nathan Pine has announced that Peter Burke will be elevated to the role of interim head coach of the Holy Cross men’s lacrosse program for the 2018-19 season, effective immediately.
Burke has served as an assistant coach with the program for the last three seasons, helping guide the team to Patriot League Tournament appearances in 2016 and 2017. Burke, along with fellow assistant coach Nico Capron, led the Crusaders over the final five games of the 2018 season. Capron, who has served as an assistant coach for two seasons, will depart Holy Cross and has accepted an assistant coaching position at Colby College.
“Peter has done a very good job of leading our program since taking over in March. Given what the team was able to accomplish during the second half of last season, I’m confident this move is in the best interest of our student-athletes and the continued continuity of our men’s lacrosse program,” said Pine. “This is a well-deserved opportunity for Peter, and I’m eager to see our program thrive under his leadership and direction.”
The Crusaders went 3-2 in their final five contests of the 2018 campaign, registering wins over Quinnipiac, Lafayette and Colgate, and competing for a spot in the Patriot League Tournament until the final weekend of action. The program also recorded a premier win over Harvard in 2018, with strong showings against nationally recognized opponents Army (5-3 L) and Navy (5-4 L) in the latter half of the year.
A national search for two assistant coaches to round out the Holy Cross men’s lacrosse coaching staff will begin immediately.
