Crusaders Place Ninth at Columbia Invitational
WEST ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Joe Egan finished in a tie for 11th place as an individual, to lead the Holy Cross men’s golf team to a ninth-place finish out of 11 schools in the Columbia Invitational at the Montclair Golf Club. Egan totaled a 146 over two rounds to finish at six-over par.
Sophomore Connor Phillips tied for 14th place overall with a 147, while freshman Jack Phelan tied for 40th with a 154. In addition, freshman Collin Fitzpatrick tied for 52nd with a 157, and senior Jake Peer came in 59th with a 163.
St. Joseph’s won the team title with a two-round total of 570, w¬¬hile Holy Cross totaled 603. Ross Pilliod of St. Joseph’s was the individual medalist after finishing at four-under par (136).
The Crusaders return to action on Monday, April 15, when they open play in the Rhode Island Invitational at the Quidnessett Country Club in North Kingstown, R.I.
BEYOND THE RESULTS:
- Egan shot a one-over par 71 in the second round, the lowest 18-hole score for any Crusader in the tournament.
- Against Patriot League foes, Holy Cross finished six strokes ahead of Lafayette (609), and seven strokes behind Colgate (596).
