WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women’s lacrosse team was defeated at Army, 19-13. Three Crusaders earned hat tricks in the game, but it was not enough to hold off the Black Knights.

 

Army (8-3, 1-2 PL) started off the scoring at 28:59 but the Crusaders (3-7, 1-2 PL) responded quickly from Jolie Creo at 28:22. The teams traded goals for the opening 15 minutes of action to play to a score of 4-4. Izzy Grant scored on a free position shot at 21:52. Catherine Guanci tallied consecutive goals at 20:17 and 16:19 for her first multi-goal game of the season.

 

The Black Knights went on a four-goal run starting at 12:30 and ending at 8:53 to take an 8-4 lead.

 

The Crusaders stopped the Black Knights run at 6:53 when Creo scored her 14th goal of the season (8-5).  Again, the teams traded goals to close the half. Bryn Carroll scored her first of the day to put Holy Cross within three, 9-6 at 1:14. Army capped of the first half scoring with 34 seconds remaining (10-6).

 

Army started off the second half with a goal at 27:33 to take an 11-6 lead. Holy Cross responded with four-consecutive goals. The Crusaders scored twice in 31 seconds with two free position goals. Grant scored her second goal of the game followed by Keely Connors. Carroll scored again at 24:09 for her 14th of the season. Connors’ second goal of the game at 21:07 to put Holy Cross within one, 11-10.

 

At 19:31 and 19:06, Army scored two quick goals to extend its lead to 13-10. Creo scored at 17:52 for a hat trick, but the Black Knights recorded two more goals.

 

Guanci marked a hat trick at 9:45 to push the game to 15-12. The Black Knights posted four goals in the final eight minutes of play, including two man-up goals. Carroll completed her hat trick with 0:01 to play, ending the game 19-13.  

 

NOTES & NUMBERS:

  • Holy Cross outshot Army, 41-38.
  • Army recorded 21 draw controls to Holy Cross’ 12.
  • Combined, Juliana Kubler and Sophie Ochs made nine saves. The Black Knights goalkeepers recorded 17 saves.

 

CRUSADER LEADERS:

  • Holy Cross had five goal-scorers, each recording multi-goal games. Three Crusaders posted hat tricks: Creo, Carroll, and Guanci.
  • Connors led the team with four draw controls.
