CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Holy Cross softball team fell to Central Michigan, 5-0, Sunday morning in its final game of the USF Series Tournament.

Alexandra Held started and pitched 5.0 innings, while striking out seven and giving up only one earned run and five hits. Olivia Sloane came on in relief for the sixth and gave up two hits, but no earned runs.

The Crusaders’ three hits came from the bats of Jackie Brewster, Erin Bengston, and Jessie Nagel. Brewster doubled down the left field line and Bengston and Nagel both singled.

First Inning:

  • Held earned all three outs with strikeouts, but a couple singles and a stolen base got the Chippewas on the board.

Second:

  • Bengston’s and Nagel’s singles both came in the second, but the Crusaders weren’t able to get either across.

Third:

  • Held sat them down in order in the third.

Fourth:

  • With a runner on second, Central Michigan singled home its second run of the game.

Sixth:

  • Bailey Chavez reached on an error to start the inning, but didn't get passed first.
  • The Chippewas did most of their damage in the sixth when they brought home three, but none were earned after a couple of errors.

UP NEXT:

Holy Cross will travel to New York next weekend to play in the St. John’s Invitational and take on Wagner, Hofstra, and St. John’s.
