PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Holy Cross men’s hockey team was edged by Robert Morris, 1-0, in the first game of the Atlantic Hockey First Round. Tommy Nixon posted 29 saves in the game but Robert Morris’ second period goal proved to be the winner.

 

While the first period was scoreless, the fast pace was set. The Crusaders (10-20-5) jumped out quickly with six shots on goal before the Colonials (13-20-2) were able to register a shot. Holy Cross outshot Robert Morris, 17-10. Tommy Nixon stood tall and turned aside all 10 shots he faced.

 

The Colonials broke onto the scoreboard nearly seven minutes into the middle frame on a breakaway. Later in the period, Nixon and Bryce Dolan defended a three-on-one to keep the score at 1-0. Robert Morris held the shot advantage in the second, 14-5.

 

Holy Cross outshot the Colonials in the third period, 9-5 and played 1:05 with an extra attacker but were unable to even the score. The Crusaders had one power play opportunity in the third period but could not capitalize.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

 

1-0 RMU (2nd – 6:43, EV): Nick Prkusic rushed in alone on Nixon and shot to the upper left corner.
