Crusaders Fall at Bucknell in Patriot League Quarterfinals
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell’s Kimbal Mackenzie scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Bison to a 77-65 victory over the Holy Cross men’s basketball team in the quarterfinals on the Patriot League Tournament at Sojka Pavilion. The Crusaders fall to 16-17 on the season with the loss, while Bucknell improves to 20-11 overall.
Holy Cross made just 45.9 percent of its field goal attempts, 22.2 percent of its three-pointers and 50.0 percent of its free throws on the night. The Bison were able to connect on 49.1 percent of their shots from the floor, 46.2 percent of their attempts from three-point range and 81.1 percent of their foul shots.
The game was close throughout a first half which featured seven ties and five lead changes. Bucknell was up 17-16 with 12 minutes left before the break, when it used a 7-2 spurt to go in front by six (24-18). The Crusaders responded with a 13-4 run to claim the lead (31-28), before the teams went into the locker room tied at 33-33.
The Bison pulled back in front 38-37 early in the second half, when Holy Cross scored six straight points to take its biggest lead of the night (43-38) with 14:39 left to play. But Bucknell responded with a 21-5 run to pull in front by 11 (59-48) with 9:56 to go. The Crusaders would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way, with the Bison eventually posting a 12-point victory.
Senior forward Jehyve Floyd finished the game with 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks. Sophomore guard Jacob Grandison totaled 13 points and nine rebounds, and sophomore guard Austin Butler scored 13 points.
The 2018-2019 season is now complete for the Crusaders.
