DURHAM, N.H. – The Holy Cross women’s hockey team lost to New Hampshire, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at the Whittemore Center in Durham.

The Wildcats controlled play during the early portion of the fist frame, but the Crusaders put pressure on the New Hampshire defense late. A shot by Victoria Young hit the pipe and with just a few ticks of the clock left, a clean face off win gave Julie Matthias a look right in front of Wildcat goalie Kyra Smith that sailed just high and to the right.

New Hampshire's leading scorer, Taylor Wenczkowski, put the Wildcats ahead in the second after she grabbed a rebound in the middle of a scrum in front of Brenon. New Hampshire would add three more in the final frame to pull away.

With six minutes to go in the game, the Crusaders got one back. Rachel Moore wrapped around the net and, as she was falling down, found a surging Maeve Reilly. Reilly slid by the goal, and sent a perfectly placed pass to Katie MacCuaig, who was waiting right in front and beat Smith for her first of the year to make it 3-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Today marks career game number 100 for Jackie Gellner.
  • MacCuaig’s first goal of the season gives the sophomore 15 in her career.

UP NEXT:

Holy Cross will host New Hampshire tomorrow back at the Hart Center in its Skating Strides game at 1 p.m.
