Holy Cross Athletics   01-19-2019

DURHAM, New Hampshire -- The Holy Cross women’s track and field team competed in a dual meet against the University of New Hampshire on Saturday, January 19. The Crusaders were victorious, winning by a score of 222-199.

Sophomore Christa Jay Moore had one of the top results of the day for the Crusaders, posting a season-best 3.80 meters in her victory in the pole vault to qualify for ECACs in the event. Sophomore Abbie Mokwuah also had an ECAC mark in the shot put, winning with a mark of 13.51 meters. She also won the weight throw with a New England mark of 16.49 meters.

Senior Alexandra Curtin (7.29 seconds), junior Allie Smiley (7.34 seconds) and senior Sarah Friess (7.44 seconds) made up the top three in the 55 meter dash respectively, with Curtin and Smiley posting New England-qualifying times.

Senior Morgan Sanders (8.48 seconds) and junior Taylor Gensler (8.57) went 1-2 in the 55 meter hurdles, with both posting New England marks.

Sophomore Marina MacKinnon won the 1,000 meters in a New England-qualifying time of 3:04.94; freshman Emily Koufos was fourth with a time of 3:08.87.

Smiley led the way as Holy Cross swept the top eight in the long jump, posting a New Englands mark of 5.51 meters. Also finishing high were Curtin (second, 5.21 meters), freshman Eva McCool-Guglielmo (third, 5.02 meters) and junior Jillian Purtell (fourth, 4.99 meters).

Junior Allison McArdle qualified for New Englands with a third-place finish in the one mile, clocking in at 5:07.47.

McCool-Guglielmo won the triple jump, posting a mark of 11.10 meters. Smiley was in second place, posting a mark of 10.63 meters. Curtin also won the 200 meter dash, with a time of 26.84 seconds; Friess was right behind her, finishing second in 27.03 seconds.

Three Crusaders made up the top three of the 3,000 meters: sophomore Elizabeth Graves (10:36.92), sophomore Claire Hanlon (10:43.23) and freshman Michaela Halloran (10:43.56).

Freshman Kelsey O’Hara (1:19.28) and senior Lauren Rasmus (1:20.65) were second and third in the 500 meter run. Sophomore Sydney McDonald (1.61 meters), Sanders (1.56 meters) and sophomore Grace Goodwin (1.56 meters) were second, third and fourth in the high jump.

Freshman Vanessa Attaya (11.37 meters) and freshman Jordyn Shubrick (11.19 meters) were third and fourth in the shot put; senior Victoria Attaya (13.73 meters) and Shubrick (13.65 meters) were third and fourth in the weight throw. Freshman Milly O’Brien was fourth in the 400 meters at 1:02.37.

Holy Cross returns to action on Friday, January 25 at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic.
