Men's Track and Field Falls Short at UNH

Holy Cross Athletics   01-19-2019

The Holy Cross men’s track and field team competed in a dual meet against the University of New Hampshire on Saturday, January 19. The Crusaders fell short to the Wildcats by a score of 244-178.

Senior Brandon Thornhill won the 55 meter hurdles, posting a time of 7.78 seconds in the finals. Senior Alexander Escada won the long jump with a leap of 6.33 meters.

Junior Garrett Fortin finished second in the 55 meter dash, clocking in at 6.72 seconds. Sophomore Dan Dempsey was also second in the high jump, posting a mark of 1.89 meters. Senior Myles Connor placed third in the high jump with a top height of 1.84 meters.

Freshman TJ Duggan cleared 4.05 meters in the pole vault to finish second, while senior Christopher Puntasecca placed third with a top height of 3.75 meters.

Senior Sawyer Badey placed second in the triple jump at 12.25 meters. Senior Jacob Newton was second in the 400 meters at 53.58 seconds, while Thornhill was fourth in a time of 54.17.

Junior Freddie Halloran was third in the 500 meters, finishing with a time of 1:08.95. Rookie Will Hornyak was fourth in the 800 meters at 2:01.42. Freshman John Gnibus (24.81 seconds) and sophomore Nick Techiera (25.06 seconds) were third and fourth in the 200 meters.

Senior Tom Chiappini finished fourth in the shot put at 13.13 meters.

Holy Cross will next be in action at Boston University’s John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday, January 26.
