SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s hockey team was shutout by American International, 2-0, on Thursday night. Erik Gordon made 32 saves for the Crusaders. Holy Cross drops to 4-13-3, 4-9-2 AHA and American International improves to 11-11-1, 11-7-1 in the league.

 

The Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 lead in the first period, outshooting the Crusaders 13-5 in the opening frame.

 

The middle frame was quiet for both teams. Holy Cross recorded 11 shots with many offensive chances but were unable to get on the board. Erik Gordon turned aside all 10 Yellow Jacket shots he faced.

 

The Crusaders battled in the third period but were unable to get on the board in the final period, with 10 shots. Gordon stopped 11 shots in the final frame.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

 

1-0 AIC (1st - 4:21, EV): AIC’s Kyle Stephan tipped a puck just in front of the crease after a Yellow Jacket point shot.

2-0  AIC (1st – 12:29, PP): As the Crusader penalty was about to expire, the Yellow Jackets capitalized on a two-on-one as Just Cole scored on a snap shot.

 

NOTES & NUMBERS:

  • The Crusaders were outshot, 34-26.
  • Gordon’s 32 save effort marks the third consecutive 30-save game for the freshman.

 

UP NEXT:

 

Holy Cross will host the Yellow Jackets on Jan. 19 at the Hart Center at 7:00 p.m. to close the series.
