ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy's Hasan Abdullah hit a short jumper in the lane with 0.6 seconds remaining, to break a 48-48 tie and lift the Midshipmen to a 50-48 victory over the Holy Cross men's basketball team at Alumni Hall. The Crusaders fall to 10-5 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League with the loss, while Navy improves to 5-8 on the season and 2-0 in the conference.

The game was close throughout a first half which featured four ties and four lead changes, as neither team led by more than six points. The Midshipmen were up 26-21 with three minutes left before the break, before Holy Cross closed out the half with a 5-0 run to make the score 26-26 heading into the locker room.

The lead continued to go back and forth throughout the second half, and Navy held a 41-40 advantage with 6:36 left to play. The Crusaders then scored six straight points to go in front by five (46-41), including a pair of baskets from senior forward Jehyve Floyd. But the Midshipmen responded with a 7-0 run of their own, reclaiming the lead (48-46) on a jumper by George Kiernan with 41.6 seconds remaining. On Holy Cross' next possession, Floyd was fouled going to the basket and made both free throws with 25.7 seconds to go, tying the score once again (48-48). Navy then had the ball last, and after Cam Davis missed a three-pointer, Abdullah grabbed the rebound and hit the winning shot.

The Crusaders struggled shooting the ball, making 36.7 percent of their field goals and 25.0 percent of their three-pointers on the afternoon. The Midshipmen only hit 35.7 percent of their shots from the floor and 29.2 percent of their attempts from beyond the arc, but held a 47-27 rebounding advantage.

Sophomore guard Jacob Grandison led Holy Cross with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Floyd added 10 points, all in the second half. Abdullah finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and eight assists for Navy.

The Crusaders will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 9, when they play host to Lehigh in their Patriot League home opener at 7:05 p.m.
