Box Score

STORRS, Conn. – The Holy Cross women’s ice hockey team fell to the University of Connecticut, 4-3, Friday night at the Freitas Ice Forum.

Rachel Moore recorded two assists and a goal and Julie Matthias found the back of the net twice and had one helper, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Huskies on their home ice. After an action-packed first period that saw the Crusaders take the lead twice and a total of four goals, things slowed down a bit as there were only three goals scored in the remaining two periods.

Moore scored with three minutes to go, so the Crusaders pulled goalie Julia Pelletier for an extra skater. Despite a few good looks, they weren’t able to cash in and the game ended with the Huskies up one.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

1-0 HC (1st, 2:32, EV): The Crusaders got things going early when Matthias sent a laser past UConn’s Sam Carpentier-Yelle to open the scoring. Moore assisted on the play.

1-1 CONN (1st, 9:14, EV): The Huskies responded to tie the game less than seven minutes later.

2-1 HC (1st, 19:03, EV): Matthias got her second of the night and third of the season with under a minute to play in the period. This time Moore and Carlie Magier helped out their linemate.

2-2 CONN (1st, 19:18, EV): UConn would get one back 15 seconds later to tie things at two at the end of the first frame.

3-2 CONN (2nd, 6:41, EV): The Huskies got control of a rebound and beat Pelletier to take their first lead of the game.

4-2 CONN (3rd, 14:33, SH): A blocked shot rebounded and the Huskies’ Natalie Snodgrass was the first one to it and found the back of the net.

4-3 HC (3rd, 17:01, EV): The Crusaders weren’t going down without a fight as Moore recorded her first goal and third point of the night to cut the deficit to one.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The two assists and three points were both career-highs for Moore.
  • Magier recorded two assists in a game for the first time in her impressive freshman campaign.
  • Matthias’ three points brings her career total to 81.
  • Moore, Magier, and Matthias now share the team lead of eight points.
