WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s hockey team fell to Bentley, 4-2, on Nov. 24. Mitch Collett scored his fourth goal of the season. Jack Surowiec scored his second goal in three games. The Crusaders drop to 1-8-2 and 1-4-1 in league play while Bentley improves to 5-7-1 and 4-5-1 in Atlantic Hockey.

 

The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the first period by way of Jack Surowiec. Erik Gordon turned aside seven shots in the opening 20 minutes. Holy Cross outshot Bentley, 14-7, in the first.

 

The second period saw offense from the Falcons as they outshot the Crusaders, 11-4. Bentley kicked off their scoring 1:29 into the period on the power play and continued to take a 3-1 lead as the period moved on.

 

With a five-on-three opportunity, Holy Cross closed the Bentley lead to 3-2 but could not hold on. Bentley scored just over a minute later to put the Crusaders behind two goals once more.  

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

 

1-0 HC (1st – 9:56): Kevin Darrar rushed the puck over the blue line and fed Charlie Barrow streaking up the wing. Barrow let go of a powerful shot that rebounded out to Jack Surowiec on the point. Surowiec collected the puck and quickly shot through traffic and into the net.

1-1 BU (2nd – 1:29): On the power play, Michael Zuffante walked the puck from the corner to the slot and roofed the puck.

2-1 BU (2nd – 9:15): In transition, the puck wrapped around the back wall and popped out to Luke Orysiuk, who skated into his shot at the top of the left faceoff circle.

3-1 BU (2nd – 15:18): As the Falcons held possession in the offensive zone, Alexey Solovyev ripped a slap shot from the right faceoff circle to the top left corner of the net.

3-2 HC (3rd – 15:36): Matt Barry sent the puck to Spencer Trapp on the point. Trapp let go of a slap shot that rebounded to Mitch Collett, who quickly moved the puck past Bentley’s Aidan Pelino.

4-2 BU (3rd – 16:40): Ryner Gorowsky rushed the puck up the ice and sent a backhand past Gordon.
