Holy Cross 0 0 0 0
Maine 5 3 0 0

ORONO, Maine – The Holy Cross women’s ice hockey team fell to Maine, 8-0, Sunday afternoon in Orono. The loss drops the Crusaders to 0-9-2 and 0-6-0 in Hockey East play. Maine improves to 7-3-0 and 3-3-0 in the conference.

The Crusaders got off to a tough start with the Black Bears capitalizing and scoring five goals in the first period, by five different players. Maine would add three more scores in the second period to go into the third up, 8-0.

Holy Cross did a better job defensively in the final period, not allowing Maine to add to its lead and limited the Black Bears to only six shots on goal in the frame, their lowest total of the game.

A bright spot on the day for the Crusaders was their work on the faceoff. Holy Cross held the advantage there, 33-29. Senior Julie Matthias went 18-11.

The team will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10 when it takes on Merrimack in a home-and-home series.
