Volleyball Tops Lehigh, 3-2
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Holy Cross volleyball team defeated Lehigh in five sets on Oct. 26. The Crusaders dropped the first set, but battled back with a .441 attack percentage in the second set. Holy Cross claimed the third set and capped off the match with a 15-11 victory in the fifth set. Regan Wright recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 13 kills and 22 digs.
In the first set, Holy Cross was edged, 25-18. Johnna Shamley led with five kills.
Holy Cross returned to the second set with a team .441 hitting percentage that led to a 25-14 set win. The Crusaders jumped to an early lead (10-4), and continued the dominance as they went up 22-13. Kathleen Philo sealed the set with a service ace.
The Crusaders edged the Mountain Hawks in the third set, 25-23. Early in the set, the score was relatively even and the teams’ traded points. Lehigh took a 14-9 lead but the Crusaders continued to battle. Holy Cross trailed 23-20, but Holy Cross rattled off five consecutive points to take the set.
The Mountain Hawks took the fourth set, 25-20. Clare Honan led for the Crusaders with four kills and one block. Wright added two kills and five digs.
Holy Cross claimed the final set, 15-11, despite Lehigh taking the first three points. As the Crusaders were down, 5-3, the team went on a five point run to take an 8-5 lead. Holy Cross kept the lead for the remainder of the match for the win.
The Crusaders play at Bucknell on Oct. 27 at 5:00 p.m.
