Holy Cross Downs Sacred Heart in Season Opener
Holy Cross Athletics and NESN (New England Sports Network) have announced a new agreement that will see numerous Crusader athletics events broadcast on NESN or NESNplus during the 2018-2019 academic year.
The Holy Cross men's basketball team will begin the 2018-2019 campaign when plays host to Sacred Heart at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The contest between the Crusaders and the Pioneers can be seen online through the Patriot League Network, and will also air live on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
After advancing to the conference semifinals last year, Holy Cross heads into the 2018-2019 campaign looking to contend for the Patriot League title. The Crusaders return one of the most experienced teams in the league, as they bring back players who scored 88.6 percent of their points and played 89.4 percent of their minutes a year ago.
The College of the Holy Cross will host a discussion on Friday, Oct. 26, featuring legendary Boston Celtic and Holy Cross Hall of Famer Bob Cousy, as well as author and acclaimed historian Gary Pomerantz, to coincide with the release of the new book "The Last Pass: Cousy, Russell, the Celtics, and What Matters in the End." No seats for the event remain, but anyone can watch a live broadcast through the Patriot League Network beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday evening.
Senior forward Jehyve Floyd, a member of the Holy Cross men's basketball team, has been selected to the 2018-2019 preseason All-Patriot League team, in voting by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors. In addition, the Crusaders have been picked to finish in fifth place in the 2018-2019 Patriot League preseason poll.
Dr. George A. Kaftan, 90, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2018. Born and raised in Washington Heights, NY, George lived an extraordinary life both professionally and personally. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Helen; his three daughters, Esta, Evelyn and Georgette; his grandchildren Stephen and wife Erin, Michael, Evan, Natasha and Grant; and great-grandchildren, Harper and Beckett.
The Holy Cross men's basketball team will have three games shown live on the CBS Sports Network during the 2018-2019 season, as part of the Patriot League's television package. One other Holy Cross game could also be shown, as the televised contest for the final day of the regular season will be selected no later than 10 days before the game date.
Tickets are now on sale for Holy Cross' games in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament to be held at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., from Nov. 16-18.
