WHY CHEER AT HOLY CROSS?
The Holy Cross cheerleaders are a group of energetic,
student athletes, who are devoted to the traditions of HC and its
school spirit. Cheering at HC you will become part of a tradition
and will help to make it even better. We work hard at progressing
our skills. We strive to support and encourage each other and have
fun working toward common goals. Holy Cross cheerleading offers the
chance to build long-lasting friendships, and team camaraderie.
Cheerleaders not only cheer for Division 1 sports, but also may
travel to summer camp, football games, post-season tournaments, and
sometimes competition. Cheerleaders enjoy the best seats in the
house for all Holy Cross home football and basketball events.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Motivated individuals, who continually try to improve themselves.
People who believe a cheer squad can affect a game even if it is a
small impact. Athletes who want to demonstrate their abilities and
help the Holy Cross program to progress, at practices, games, and
competition.
TRYOUT INFORMATION
We encourage anyone interested in trying out to attend a practice
and/or game. All of our practices are open. Anyone interested in
working on their skills or learning more about the program is
invited to attend a practice.
TRYOUT PROCEDURE
Tryouts are held in April for the following year.
The purpose of tryouts is to pick the most talented athletes who
give the best representation of Holy Cross. The tryout process will
aide the coaching staff in choosing the best all around teams.
If you are unable to attend the tryouts in the spring, a video
tryout is suggested.
Material & Technical Clinics - All candidates, including
students who've made a team in the past, must tryout for a spot on
the cheerleading team, in April. (Only captains of the cheerleading
teams are exempt from trying out). We highly encourage high school
seniors to tryout in the spring because another tryout will only be
held if there are open spots. The typical cheerleading squad is a
total of 16 members (subject to change). There are no junior
varsity cheerleading squads at Holy Cross. . There are no weight or
height limits to tryout for cheerleading.
Judging
All material will be taught during tryouts. Cuts may be made after
the practice time on Saturday. Final tryouts will be judged upon
the following categories:
Guys:
# No experience necessary.
# You just need to be willing to commit to the team, and to work
hard.
Girls:
# A Dance
# A Fight song
# A Cheer
# A Sideline
# A single toe-touch jump
# A standing back handspring
# A round-off back handspring
*You will go thru a stunt progression (shoulder sit, shoulder
stand, prep, extension, etc) throughout tryouts. In order to
progress you must be cleared by the coach. On the final day of
tryouts, you will be asked to do the most advanced stunt that you
can safely perform.
**Most skills (except tumbling) will be taught through tryouts and
all skills are not mandatory, but will increase your chances!
**The coaching staff/administration will choose the team. The
coaching staff/administration will select the team that works best
together and performs at the most elite level.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Tryouts for the upcoming year are held in April. The
cheerleading season is year round. If you are selected to be on the
team you must commit for the football and basketball seasons. You
are expected to attend events over some school breaks ( including
Winter and Spring break.) Please plan accordingly.
Incoming freshmen or transfer students must furnish a copy of your
letter of acceptance before you may tryout. All candidates, whether
it is your first time or you are returning, must bring a copy of
your medical insurance card or proof of medical insurance including
the policy number. If you are not going to be 18 by the first day
of tryouts, you must have a parent/legal guardian present at
registration to sign medical waivers or you will not be allowed to
participate in try out activities.
REQUIREMENTS

attend camp, you will be allowed to tryout again, only if there are
additional tryouts held during the school year. Any Holy Cross
student may tryout for the team.
Practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. and
Fridays from 4-6pm. A gymnastics practice may be added as needed.

service that the team does. If the team competes, extra practices
may be held as needed.
