Fitchburg, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's cross country team dominated the field of runners at the Fitchburg Invitational in Fitchburg, Mass. on Friday afternoon. The Crusader women took all top five spots in the race's final standings. Freshman Margaret Fox (Natick, Mass.) led the team finishing first with a time of 20:53 on the 5K course. Fox beat her closest competitor and teammate by 1:34.
Sophomore Maureen McCarty (Seattle, Wash.) finished second overall in 22:27. Teammate freshman Ariana Coniglio (Revere, Mass.) took third place with a time of 22:36. Sophomore Casey Monahan (Holyoke, Mass.) broke the 23-minute mark, finishing in 22:50 earning her fourth place. Sophomore Jenna Greco (Westfield, N.J.) rounded out the field of Crusaders, finishing in fifth with a time of 23:49.
The Crusaders convincing victory earned them the lowest possible score of 15, beating their closest competitor and host Fitchburg State by 22 points. The win was the first for Holy Cross this season.
The Holy Cross women's cross country team split their weekend this weekend, with part of the team heading to Notre Dame, Ind. for the National Catholic Championships. The Crusaders are back in action Saturday, September 30 at the Murray Keatinge Invitational in Orono, ME. Start time is set for 11 am.
