New Britain , Conn. - The Holy Cross men's cross country team placed third with 101 points, while the women's cross country team finished fourth with 112 points at the CCSU Mini Meet on Saturday, Oct. 23.
Senior Erin Moseley (Carlisle, Mass.) was the Crusaders' top runner finishing eighth with a time of 12:09 .
Senior Jon Nieskens (Peterborough, N.H.) was Holy Cross' top finisher for the men's team, finishing 12th with a time of 15:59. Senior Brendan Kearney (Haddonfield, N.J.) came in six seconds after Nieskens to place 17th.
Sophomore Megan Hyland (Rye, N.Y ) and senior Michela Bryne (Portland, Ore.) place 22nd with a time of 12:40 and 28th with a time of 12:56, respectively.
Senior James Clifford (Haworth, N.J.) ran the 5k race in a time of 16:19, good enough for 22nd place, while classmate Edward Hughes (Bangor, Maine) was one second behind Clifford placing 24th. Sophomore Stephen Kress (Portland, Maine) finished 26th with a time of 16:21.
Long Island University 's Floyd Mayne won the race with a time of 15:30, while Massachusetts took the team title with 41 points.
Cynthia Smith from the University of Rhode Island won the individual title in a time of 11:39. Connecticut narrowly beat Rhode Island for the team title by 1 point 31-32.
The Crusaders next meet is schedule for Saturday, Oct. 30 at the Patriot League Championships in Lewisburg, Pa.
