FITCHBURG, Mass. -- The Holy Cross men's and women's cross country teams both finished in first place at the Jim Sheehan Classic, hosted by Fitchburg State College at Coggshall Park. The men totaled 19 points, to finish ahead of Fitchburg State (37) and Anna Maria (85), while the women recorded 15 points, placing in front of Fitchburg State (57) and Framingham State (72). Freshman Margaret Molloy (West Hartford, Conn.) led the women by placing first overall in a time of 20:24, while freshman Chris Bergan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had the top showing for the men, placing third in a time of 26:11.
For the Holy Cross men, Bergan was followed by junior Sebastian Fidelus (Jersey City, N.J.) in fifth place (26:27), junior Matthew Talbot (Garden City, N.Y.) in sixth place (26:43) and freshman Peter Kistinger (Cincinnati, Ohio) in seventh (26:52). On the women's side, Molloy was followed by sophomore Sarah Croteau (Westminster, Mass.) in second place (20:52), senior Kristin Burke (Guilford, Conn.) in third place (21:12) and freshman Courtney Burgess (Dracut, Mass.) in fourth (21:23). Overall, the women had the top seven finishers and 11 of the top 12 in the race.
The Crusaders have another meet this afternoon, with other members of the team competing in the National Catholic Championship in Notre Dame, Ind.
