BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Holy Cross women's cross country team finished first of 45 teams in the Women's Brown 6K race at the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday morning. The Crusaders finished with 176 team points as all seven runners finished in the top-100 of 365 runners. Senior Emily Hughes (Milton, Mass.) led HC across the finish line, taking 11th place with a time of 22:08.
Senior Sandra van den Heuvel (Nashua, N.H.) finished 26th with a time of 22:31 followed by freshman Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.), who took 33rd with a time of 22:42. Sophomore Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) crossed the finish line in 47th place with a time of 22:53, senior Amanda Waldron (Walpole, Mass.) took 59th with a time of 23:11, sophomore Cassie Gildea (Milford, Conn.) finished 77th at 23:26 and freshman Mary Welsh (Manhasset, N.Y.) took 98th with a time of 23:37.
The women's cross country team will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the New England Championship at 11:00 a.m.
