Women's Cross Country Set For ECAC Championship

  • The Holy Cross women's cross country team will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 17, for its final meet of the season at the ECAC Championship in Bronx, N.Y. The race is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
  • Last season, junior Emily Hughes (Milton, Mass.) earned an 11th place finish as the Crusaders finished 16th of 27 teams. Hughes finished with a time of 18:40. Junior Sandra van den Heuvel (Nashua, N.H.) was the second Holy Cross finisher with a time of 19:25.
  • The Crusaders are coming off the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship where Hughes continued to lead the Crusaders. She has now led the team across the finish line in every race she has run in this season. Hughes set a career-high mark earlier this season at the New England Championship (10/7) with a time of 18:01.28.
  • Hughes and freshman Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) are the only Crusaders to be recognized by the league this season. Hughes earned Patriot League Runner of the Week and Carey took home Patriot League Rookie of the Week for action Oct. 1-7. It was the second time Hughes has been recognized in her career, taking Rookie of the Week for her performance at the 2010 New England Championship. It was the first career honor for Carey.
