Hughes Named To Academic All-Patriot League Team

Emily Hughes

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Holy Cross women's cross country junior co-captain Emily Hughes (Milton, Mass.) has been named to the Academic All-Patriot League team, as voted on by the league's cross country sports information directors. To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter of key player in his/her sport. Hughes becomes the first Holy Cross women's cross country runner to receive the honor since the Academic All-Patriot League team was first assembled during the 2010 season.

Hughes was the top Holy Cross finisher in every race she ran in this season and is one of just seven student-athletes across the conference to make the squad. She took 17th of 72 runners at the 2012 Patriot League Championship, improving her time from the previous season by over one minute. She recorded her career-best time of 18:01.28 at the New England Championship (10/7), finishing 27th of 251 runners.

In the classroom, Hughes has compiled a 3.62 grade point average while majoring in Sociology. She has also been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll three times, including the 2010 and 2011 cross country seasons and 2011-2012 track and field season.

Qualifying members of the cross country team will run at the NCAA Northeast Regional this Friday, Nov. 9, in Madison, Conn. at 12:00 p.m.
