HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Holy Cross men's and women's cross country teams began the 2012 season by running in the Harry Lang Invitational, held on the campus of Colgate University. The Crusader women finished in sixth place out of 11 teams with a total of 156 points, while the men's team came in seventh out of 11 teams with 192 points. Syracuse won both of the team titles, with 24 points on the women's side and 22 points in the men's competition.
For the women, junior Emily Hughes (Milton, Mass.) led Holy Cross by finishing in 14th place with a time of 16:49.0. Junior Amanda Waldron (Walpole, Mass.) came in 21st in a time of 17:00.0, while junior Sandra van den Heuvel (Nashua, N.H.) placed 37th (17:21.0) and freshman Katherine Holdridge (Preston, Conn.) finished 39th (17:25.0).
In the men's race, sophomore John Cicchitti (Warminster, Pa.) led the Crusaders with a 28th place finish in a time of 21:13.0. Junior Nick Petsky (Manorville, N.Y.) placed 50th with a time of 21:41.5, while junior Dylan Villescas (Las Cruces, N.M.) came in 51st (21:42.0) and freshman Francisco Tejidor (Coral Gables, Fla.) was 57th (21:53.0).
Holy Cross returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 8, when it travels to Smithfield, R.I., for the Nassaney Invitational.
