Women's Cross Country To Begin Season This Saturday
Schedule: Saturday, Sept. 1 at Harry Lang Invitational, Hamilton, N.Y., 11:30 a.m.
- The Holy Cross women's cross country team is set to begin the 2012 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Harry Lang Invitational, hosted by Colgate.
- Juniors Emily Hughes (Milton, Mass.) and Sandra van den Heuvel (Nashua, N.H.) will serve as the captains of the 2012 squad. Last season, both Hughes and van den Heuvel competed in a team-high seven races. Hughes ran a season-best time of 18:32.31 at the National Catholic Invitational (Sept. 16) while van den Heuvel clocked a season-best 18:48 at the Blue Devil Invitational (Sept. 2).
- The Crusaders are scheduled to run in 10 races this season, including the New England Championship (Oct. 7) and Patriot League Championship (Oct. 27). Qualifying runners will also compete in the NCAA Northeast Regional (Nov. 9) and ECAC Championship (Nov. 17).
- Holy Cross returns six runners to the 2012 roster and welcomes four newcomers, including Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.), Cassie Gildea (Milford, Conn.), Katherine Holdridge (Preston, Conn.) and Allison Longo (Havertown, Pa.).
