ORONO, Maine – Junior Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass.) led the Holy Cross women's cross country team with a third place finish, but it wasn't enough as Maine claimed four of the top five spot in dual meet action Saturday afternoon. Holy Cross suffered an 18-38 loss in its first dual meet competition of the season.
Sutherland led the Crusaders with a third place finish and time of 18:09. Freshman Emily Hughes (Milton, Mass.) was the second Crusader to cross the line, finishing in seventh place with a time of 18:59. Senior Jacqueline Imse (Simsbury, Conn.) crossed the line in eighth place with a time of 19:01 and sophomore Lizzie Harkins (Latrobe, Pa.) placed ninth with a time of 19:07. Junior Elizabeth Humphries (Siler City, N.C.) rounded out Holy Cross' top five with an 11th place finish and a time of 19:14.
Holy Cross will open the championship portion of its season at the New England Championship on Saturday, Oct. 9. Race time is set for 12:00 p.m.
