BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomores Cory Loftis (Branford, Conn.) and Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass) were top finishers for the Holy Cross men's and women's cross country teams at the NCAA Northeast Regional hosted by Boston University on Saturday, November 14. Syracuse won both the men's and women's competition, while the Holy Cross men's team finished 26th out of 36 teams and the women finished 19th out of 35.
Loftis led the Crusaders with a 100 place overall finish with a time of 33:55. Sophomore Dan Altenau (Eastchester, N.Y.) was the second Crusader to cross the line in 109th place with a time of 34:05. Senior Timothy Richard (Attleboro, Mass.) finished in 142nd with a time of 34:43, freshman Kyle Shepard (White Plains, N.Y.) finished with a time of 35:04 and senior Brendan Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) finished with a time of 35:30. Rookies Dylan Leazes (Providence, R.I.) and Kevin Turner (Charlton, Mass.) also ran, finishing with times of 36:22 and 36:25 respectively.
Sutherland led the Crusaders for the sixth consecutive race this season, finishing in 25th place with a time of 22:57. Senior Claire Luke (Delmar, N.Y.) was the second Crusader to cross the line, finishing in 118th place with a time of 24:44. Also finishing in the 24th minute was senior Sarah Croteau (Westminster, Mass.) with a time of 24:45 and sophomore Sarah Mellea (North Arlington, N.J.) with a time of 24:51. Sophomore Elizabeth Humphries (Siler City, N.C.) finished with a time of 25:18, freshman Lizzy Harkins (Latrobe, Pa.) finished with a time of 25:26 and junior Jacqueline Imse (Simsbury, Conn.) crossed the line with a time of 25:47.
Holy Cross will conclude the 2009 season at the IC4A/ECAC Championship on Saturday, November 21 at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
