Crusaders Have Two Weeks Before NCAA Northeast Regional

- The Holy Cross women's cross country team has a week off before
the NCAA Northeast Regional in Bronx, N.Y. on Saturday, Nov. 14.
The following week, the Crusaders wrap up the 2009 season at the
- Thanks to her second-place finish at the Patriot League
Championship in Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday, Oct. 31, sophomore
Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass.) earned first
team All-Patriot League honors. She is the first women's cross
country runner to be so honored by the conference since 1998. In
addition, her finish is the highest for a Crusader at the Patriot
League Championship since 1990, when Nancy Sullivan also finished
second. Sutherland ran in a time of 22:54.6. It's the fifth
consecutive time this season where Sutherland was the top Holy
Cross performer and the 11th time in 12 career races.
- Holy Cross' fifth-place finish overall at the Patriot League
Championship is the program's best performance since 2001, when the
Crusaders tied for third. The Crusaders have never won the Patriot
League, having finished second twice (1990, 1991).
- Sophomore Sarah Mellea
(North Arlington, N.J.), senior co-captain Claire
Luke (Delmar, N.Y.), sophomore Elizabeth Humphries
(Siler City, N.C.) and junior Jacqueline Imse
(Simsbury, Conn.) were the remaining top five Crusader
performers at the Patriot League Championship. All finished in the
25th minute. Mellea took 27th with a time of 24:24.6 with Luke just
seven seconds behind to take 34th place. Humphries came in
35th just .9 seconds behind Luke and Imse finished in 41st with a
time of 24:46.4.
