NEW BRITIAN, Conn. - Holy Cross women's cross country sophomore Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass.) finished first for the Crusaders at the Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday afternoon in New Britian Conn. to lead the Crusaders to a second place finish. Brown claimed the top spot with 21 points, Holy Cross took second with 37 and Southern Connecticut took third with 79.
Sutherland claimed the top spot with a time of 18:06.01, beating the competition by over thirty seconds. Following Sutherland for the Crusaders was junior Jacqueline Imse (Simsbury, Conn.) in sixth place with a time of 18:51.80. Freshman Elizabeth Harkins (Latrobe, Pa.) finished eighth with a time of 18:56.85 and sophomore Sarah Mellea (North Arlington, N.J.) finished ninth with a time of 18:57.96.
Senior Claire Luke (Delmar, N.Y.) finished 15th with a time of 19:36.34, sophomore Elizabeth Humphries (Siler City, N.C.) finished 16th with a time of 19:53.32, senior Sarah Croteau (Westminster, Mass.) took 18th with a time of 20:01.81 and senior Meghan Dunne (Mendham, N.J.) finished 19th with a time of 20:06.15.
Holy Cross continues competition on Friday, Sept. 18 at the National Catholic Championship at Notre Dame. Select members of the team will compete at the Jim Sheehan Classic on Sept. 18 and at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 19.
