Strawson & Fitzpatrick Named To Academic All-District Team

WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross senior volleyball players Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) and Katie Fitzpatrick (Queensbury, N.Y.) have been selected to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I team, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Strawson earned a spot on the first team, while Fitzpatrick was named to the second team. The team is comprised of players from Division I schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

This is the second straight year that Strawson has been named to the first team, while she earned a spot on the second team in 2005. Earlier in the season she set the all-time record for career kills at Holy Cross as she currently has 1,220. Strawson is having another outstanding season as she leads the team in kills (290) and is second in digs (211). Strawson is fourth in the Patriot League in kills per game with 4.03 and she is 10th in digs per game with 2.93. She has recorded double-digit kills in 18 matches this season with nine double-doubles. She was member of the 2005 and 2006 all-Patriot League second team. This season marks the second consecutive year she has been a team captain.

Academically, Strawson has a 3.93 grade point average as a Biology major and is a two-time Patriot League Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year. She has also earned a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in every season. By earning Academic All-District first team honors, Strawson will now be on the ballot for Academic All-America honors. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team will be announced on Nov. 28.

Fitzpatrick has a 3.94 grade point average with a major in Mathematics as she has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in every season. This season she leads the team in service aces with a career-best 34 as her 0.43 service aces per game are ranked sixth in the Patriot League. She is also fourth on the team in digs with 129. For her career she has 489 digs and 77 service aces.

The Crusaders return to the court on Saturday, November 10, when they host Colgate at 5:00 p.m., and then they will conclude the 2007 season when they host Bucknell for Senior Day on Sunday, November 11, at 4:00 p.m.
