WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr. and head volleyball coach Marritt Cafarchia have announced the Crusaders' schedule for the 2008 season. Holy Cross is scheduled to play a total of 28 matches this season, including 12 home contests at the Holy Cross Field House.
The Crusaders will open the season on the road at Providence on Sept. 3. Holy Cross will then take part in the first of three regular season tournaments when it faces Hartford, Rider and Bryant at the Sacred Heart Invitational (Sept. 5-6). The Crusaders then play their home-opener against Dartmouth on Sept. 8, followed by a home match versus Central Connecticut on Sept. 10.
Holy Cross will host Bryant, Providence and Wagner for the Crusader Classic on Sept. 12-13. The Crusaders will then play at Rhode Island on Sept. 17, while they will compete at the Beanpot Classic (Sept. 19-20) against Boston College, Northeastern and St. Francis (N.Y.). Holy Cross concludes non-conference action with a match at Harvard on Sept. 24.
Holy Cross will face only Patriot League foes for the remainder of the season, beginning on the road at Lehigh (Sept. 26) and Lafayette (Sept. 27). The Crusaders will then host Colgate (Oct. 3) and Bucknell (Oct. 4), before playing at Army (Oct. 14). After hosting Lafayette (Oct. 17) and Lehigh (Oct. 18), Holy Cross will hit the road to meet Navy (Oct. 24) and American (Oct. 25). Holy Cross will conclude the regular season with a home match versus Army (Nov. 1), away matches at Bucknell (Nov. 7) and Colgate (Nov. 8) and home matches against American (Nov. 14) and Navy (Nov. 15).
The Patriot League Tournament is set for Nov. 21-22, on the campus of the regular season champion. The top four teams in the final regular season standings will take part in the tournament.
The 2008 Crusaders return eight players from last year's team.
