Providence, R.I. - The Holy Cross volleyball team was defeated, 2-3, by Providence College in five games (30-28, 28-30, 23-30, 30-22, 12-15), Tuesday, evening at Alumni Hall.
The Crusaders started out strong winning the first game before dropping games two and three. Holy Cross then recovered in game four, defeating the Friars by eight points (30-22) to tie the game at two.
The Crusaders were led by senior Caitlin Agostinacchio (Bellmore, N.Y.), who recorded her first double-double of the season, including team highs of 21 kills and 17 digs.
Setter Michelle Leahy (Andover, Mass.) tallied a game high of six aces. The senior also dished out 40 assists and 11 digs.
In all the Crusaders tallied 60 digs, 59 kills and 15 aces.
Providence's Ayana Cadres posted game highs of 26 kills and 22 digs, while teammate Annie Fiorvanti had 47 assists and 12 digs.
The Crusaders, who are now 1-3 overall, will participate in the Connecticut Invitational hosted by UConn, Friday-Saturday, Sept. 10-11, when they go up against UConn on Friday at Noon.
