WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to American, 3-0, by scores of 30-22, 30-21 and 30-25, on Saturday afternoon in Patriot League action at the Holy Cross Field House in the final home game of the year for the Crusaders. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 4-18 overall (2-9 Patriot League), while the Eagles improve to 20-6 overall (11-0 Patriot League).
Junior captain Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) led the Crusaders with eight kills, while senior captain Chrissy Fanning (East Amherst, N.Y.) had 18 assists. Sophomore Molly Anderson (Weston, Conn.) led the team in digs with 10, while senior captain Valerie Mora (San Antonio, Texas) chipped in with four kills and eight digs.
American was led by Rubena Sukaj's 21 kills, while Christina Nash and Maile Krauss each had 20 assists. Ivana Cebakova led all players with 12 digs.
Before the match, Fanning and Mora were honored for their hard work and dedication to the team on and off the court over the past four years. Fanning is currently third all-time at Holy Cross in career assists with 1579 and has been named to the Patriot League Honor Roll in every season. Mora is only the third Crusader to reach the 1,000 career digs milestone as she currently has 1,155 for third all-time at Holy Cross. She is also a two-time member of the Patriot League Honor Roll and has been named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar twice.
The Crusaders return to the court on Saturday, November 4, when they hit the road to face Army at 2:00 p.m.
