BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Junior co-captain Samantha Surface (Fresno, Calif.) and sophomore setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) each recorded double-doubles, but it was not enough as the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Lehigh, 3-1, by scores of 22-25, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-18, in the Patriot League opener for both teams on Friday. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-12 overall (0-1 Patriot League), while the Mountain Hawks improve to 5-8 (1-0 Patriot League).
Surface had her third double-double of the year and the fifth of her career with 10 kills and 11 digs. She has recorded double-digit kills in eight straight matches. O'Donnell earned her fourth double-double of the year and the seventh of her career with 25 assists and 10 digs. Junior Liz Auger (Barnstable, Mass.) led the team with 13 kills, while sophomore libero Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) had nine digs. Senior co-captain Molly Anderson (Weston, Conn.) had six digs, giving her 993 for her career. She is seven digs away from becoming only the fourth Crusader to record 1,000 career digs.
The Mountain Hawks were led by Angelika Kopacz who had 19 kills and Emma Melendez who had 19 digs. Jessica Kudirka had 25 assists, while Brittany Dickinson had 22 assists.
The Crusaders return to action when they play at Patriot League opponent Lafayette at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 27.
