VILLANOVA, Pa.- Senior Valerie Mora (San Antonio, Texas) recorded 22 digs to give her 1,019 career digs as the Holy Cross volleyball team defeated Sacred Heart, 3-2, by scores of 23-30, 30-28, 30-26, 24-30 and 15-5, in non-conference action at the Villanova Classic, on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 2-9 overall, while the Pioneers fall to 1-8 overall. Mora is only the third Crusader to reach 1,000 career digs at Holy Cross as she is currently third on the all-time career digs list.
Senior setter Chrissy Fanning (East Amherst, N.Y.) posted her fourth double-double of the season with 50 assists and 12 digs, while junior Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) earned her fifth double-double with 21 kills and 14 digs. Strawson now has 735 career kills moving her to fifth all-time at Holy Cross. Strawson was named to the Villanova Classic all-tournament team making it the third time this season, as she also earned spots on the Hartford Invitational and Crusader Classic all-tournament teams.
Freshman Liz Auger (Barnstable, Mass.) followed up her 18 kill performance against UMBC earlier in day, with 17 kills versus Sacred Heart. Sophomore Molly Anderson (Weston, Conn.) and junior Katie Fitzpatrick (Queensbury, N.Y.) both had strong defensive matches as Anderson had 14 digs and Fitzpatrick had 12 digs.
The Pioneers were led by Annie Archer's 12 kills and Morgan Gross' 54 assists. Justina Bell had 11 kills and 21 digs, while Katie Thomas led the team in digs with 23.
