Holy Cross Falls To Providence, 3-0, In Season-Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Providence, 3-0, by scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 26-24 on Wednesday night in the Crusaders' season-opener. With the loss, the Crusaders start the season 0-1, while the Friars improve to 3-2.

Senior co-captain Molly Anderson (Weston, Conn.) had 10 digs and sophomore setter Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) recorded 10 assists. Anderson now has 910 career digs, which moves her to fourth all-time at Holy Cross. Junior Liz Auger (Barnstable, Mass.) led the Crusader offense with six kills, while junior co-captain Samantha Surface (Fresno, Calif.) added four kills.

The Friars were led by Elizabeth Flynn's 16 kills and Sara Sheehan's 26 assists, while Jeanette Toney added eight kills.

The Crusaders will return to action when they compete in the Sacred Heart Invitational in Fairfield, Conn., on Friday, Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 6. On Friday night, Holy Cross will play Sacred Heart at 7:00 p.m., while on Saturday the Crusaders will meet Rider at 9:00 a.m. and Bryant at 3:00 p.m.
