WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross volleyball program has announced its team awards. The awards were presented at the team's banquet on Friday, January 31.
Freshman Katie McKernan (Sylvania, Ohio) was named the team's Most Valuable Player. This award is given to the player who has contributed to the success of the program on and off the court.
Junior Kamele Shizuru (Kailua, Hawaii) earned the Most Valuable Teammate Award. This award, which is voted on by the team, goes to the player that has contributed greatly to the program off the court. Her attitude, demeanor and actions clearly represent HCVB. This award goes to someone that is a team player and always puts the team first. She is fully committed to the team and everyone that is a part of the program.
Shizuru also won the Coaches Award. The award is given to the player that best represents Holy Cross volleyball's culture, tradition and work ethic. She receives the award for her commitment to the program, dedication to team, her successful career as a player and strong leadership.
Junior Dana Weston (Canton, Mass.) earned the Iron Crusader Award. This is given to the player that has excelled in the weight room and shows the best overall performance.
Freshman Mandy Sifferlen (Sudbury, Mass.) won the Raising the Bar Award. This is given to the player that has shown the most improvement in the weight room.
Freshman Natalie Welsch (Eden Prairie, Minn.) won the Academic Excellence Award. This is given to the player that maintains the highest GPA during the season.
Team Chaplain and PA Announcer, Fr. John Gavin won the Assist Award. This award is given to a person that has greatly assisted the Holy Cross volleyball program.
Senior Alex Aycock (Jonesboro, Ark.) was honored for her many contributions during her four years at Holy Cross.
