WORCESTER, Mass. – Kathleen Harris posted a double-double for the Raiders as the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Colgate, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in Patriot League action at the Holy Cross Field House by scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 28-26. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 7-17 overall (2-10 PL), while the Raiders improve to 19-6 overall (11-1 PL).
Freshman Emily Popp (Clarkston, Mich.) led the Crusaders with 13 digs. She now has 365 digs which are tied for seventh all-time for a season in program history and are the most ever by a Crusader freshman. Freshman Mandy Sifferlen (Sudbury, Mass.) led the team with seven kills, while freshman Katie McKernan (Sylvania, Ohio) totaled 18 assists.
Harris earned her double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Kaylee Fifer posted 21 assists and Caitlin Cremin tallied 14 digs.
With the Raiders leading the first set by a 22-13 score, the Crusaders won the next five points to cut the lead to 22-18. But Colgate took the next three points to earn the 25-18 win. The Raiders took the second set by a 25-12 score to lead the match 2-0. In the third set the Crusaders moved out to a 23-14 lead, but the Raiders then won seven straight points to make the score 23-21. After a kill by Sifferlen gave the Crusaders three set points at 24-21, Colgate took the next three points to tie the set at 24-24. After a block by Kate Reilly gave the Raiders a 25-24 lead, a kill by sophomore Emily Oliver (Carlsbad, Calif.) tied the set. With the Crusaders leading 26-25 on an ace junior Kamele Shizuru (Kailua, Hawaii), Harris then tied the set at 26-26 with a kill. A kill by Reilly and an attack error by the Crusaders then gave Colgate the 28-26 match clinching third set win.
The Crusaders return to action on Friday, Nov. 8, when they host Patriot League opponent Loyola (Md.) at the Holy Cross Field House at 7:00 p.m.
