WORCESTER, Mass. – Erin Fortner led the Mids with 11 kills as the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Navy, 3-0, on Friday night in Patriot League action at the Holy Cross Field House by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-13. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 6-12 overall (1-5 PL), while the Midshipmen improve to 7-9 overall (3-2 PL). The Crusaders held a "Pink For A Purpose" event at the match as they are raising money for PINK Revolution. The Crusaders will also be holding a "Pink For A Purpose" event when they host Lafayette on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Holy Cross Field House at 2:00 p.m.
Alex Karika led Navy with 30 assists, while Alex Cassel posted 10 kills and a team-best five blocks.
After Navy took a 9-1 lead in the first set, the Mids then extended their lead to 10 points at 17-7. The Crusaders were able to cut the lead to four points at 21-17, but Navy then won four of the next five points for a 25-18 first-set victory. With the second set tied at 20-20, the Mids won five of next six points to post a 25-21 win. Navy controlled the third set as the Mids tallied an outstanding .520 hitting percentage to earn a 25-13 match-clinching third-set victory.
