EASTON, Pa. – Senior co-captain Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) led the Crusaders with 12 kills, senior co-captain Elizabeth Watters (San Francisco, Calif.) posted a team-best 14 digs and seniors Callie Black (Fallon, Nev.) and Liz Ashton (Milford, Mass.) tied for the team-lead with four blocks each as the Holy Cross volleyball team defeated Lafayette, 3-0, in Patriot League action at the Kirby Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon in the season-finale for both teams by scores of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-16. With the win, the Crusaders conclude the season 3-27 overall (2-12 PL), while the Leopards finish 9-17 overall (2-12 PL).
Sophomore Hannah Grace Stokes (Atlanta, Ga.) posted her eighth double-double of the season and the 17th of her career with 23 assists and 13 digs. Stokes also led the team with six aces. Sophomore Heather Roberts (San Jose, Calif.) also tallied double-digit digs with 12.
The Leopards were led by Karissa Ciliento who tallied 11 kills, while Sarah Frohnapfel posted 30 assists.
With the Crusaders leading the first set by a 22-16 score, the Leopards then won four of the next five points to cut the Crusader lead to 23-20. After a kill by Lynch to increase the lead to 24-20, Lafayette won three straight points to make the score 24-23. But a kill by freshman Emily Oliver (Carlsbad, Calif.) gave the Crusaders the 25-23 victory. With the Crusaders leading the second set 20-19, they then won five consecutive points for the 25-19 win. The Crusaders won the last four points of the third set for the 25-16 match-clinching win. With the Crusaders leading 21-16, Lynch, junior Alex Aycock (Jonesboro, Ark.) and Ashton each tallied a kill, while Ashton and Aycock posted blocks on match point to earn the win.
