Volleyball Falls To Bryant, 3-0

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior captain Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) tallied 10 kills but the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Bryant, 3-0, at the Hampton Inn Invitational hosted by Bryant at the Chace Athletic Center on Saturday evening by scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-13. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-13 overall, while the Bulldogs improve to 5-9 overall. Sophomore Heather Roberts (San Jose, Calif.) was named to the All-Tournament team as she had 17 kills and 20 digs throughout the three matches.   

The Crusaders had three players with double-digit digs as Roberts posted 12, sophomore Julia Gould (Ridgewood, N.J.) had a career-best 11 and senior captain Elizabeth Watters (San Francisco, Calif.) tallied 10. Watters now has 1,102 career digs moving her to fifth all-time in program history. Freshman Emily Oliver (Carlsbad, Calif.) posted eight kills, while sophomore Hannah Grace Stokes (Atlanta, Ga.) tallied 19 assists.

The Bulldogs were led by Claire Van Dyk who tallied 13 kills, while Alexandria Clyburn posted 10 kills and seven blocks. Jadith Lorenzo tallied 37 assists and Macy Mitravich posted 16 digs. Emily Kaup was also strong at net with five blocks.

With the Bulldogs leading the first set, 19-15, they then won six of the last eight points for a 25-17 victory. Van Dyk led the Bulldogs with six kills, while Oliver posted five for the Crusaders. With the Crusaders trailing the second set, 24-20, they won two straight points off kills by Lynch to make the score 24-22. But a kill by Kaitlyn Klein gave Bryant the 25-22 win. Lynch led the Crusaders with six kills for the set, while Kaup posted four for the Bulldogs. Bryant earned the sweep with a 25-13 win in the third set. Clyburn tallied seven kills for Bryant. Lynch tallied four third-set kills.  

The Crusaders return to action when they open Patriot League play with a match versus Navy in Annapolis, Md., on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7:00 p.m. The Crusaders will then go to Washington, D.C., to meet American on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2:00 p.m.
