Volleyball Announces Team Awards

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross volleyball program has announced its team awards. The awards were presented at the team's banquet on April 21.

Junior Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) was named the team's Most Valuable Player. This award is given to the player who has contributed to the success of the program on and off the court.

Senior team manager Katie Slusarz (Canton, Mass.) earned the Most Valuable Teammate Award. This award goes to the teammate that has contributed greatly to the program off the court. Her attitude, demeanor and actions clearly represent HCVB. This award goes to someone that is a team player and always puts the team first. She is fully committed to the team and everyone that is a part of the program.

Senior Kathleen Colpoys (Scituate, Mass.) won the Coaches Award. This year's award was given to the player that best represents Holy Cross volleyball's culture, tradition and work ethic. She receives the award for her commitment to the program, dedication to team, her successful career as a player and strong leadership.

The Academic Excellence Award was won by junior Elizabeth Watters (San Francisco, Calif.). This is given to the player that maintains the highest GPA during the season. 

Athletic trainer Ansel Garvey won the Assist Award. This award is given to a person that has greatly assisted the Holy Cross volleyball program. This year's recipient goes to someone that has gone above and beyond to keep the team healthy and actively participating.

Junior Callie Black (Fallon, Nev.) earned the Iron Crusader Award. This is given to the player that has excelled in the weight room and shows the best overall performance.

Black and freshman Kamele Shizuru (Kailua, Hawaii) won the Raising the Bar Award. This is given to players that have shown the most improvement in the weight room.

2011 seniors (Colpoys & Slusarz) and 2011 captains (Colpoys, Lynch and Watters) were honored at the event. Patriot League awards that were earned for the 2011 season were also handed out. Lynch received second team All-Patriot League accolades and Player of the Week honors, while Lynch and Watters were named to the Patriot League All-Academic team. Junior Liz Ashton (Milford, Mass.), Black, Lynch and Watters were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
