WORCESTER, Mass. – On Wednesday, Sept. 22, the Holy Cross volleyball team played its first match on its brand new court at the Holy Cross Field House. The Crusaders defeated Central Connecticut by a 3-0 score.
The new Response Sport Court is the same used by USA Volleyball and for the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship. The modular-polypropylene system allows for excellent ball bounce and shock absorption. The Response court, which has been put right on top of the existing court at the Field House, has a shock and sound attenuating rubber layer and a high-impact polypropylene surface.
"This is a state of the art court," said head coach Marritt Cafarchia. "We are one of the few teams on the East Coast that have this court. It is an ideal volleyball surface. Our team is super excited about it."
The court was made possible by a generous gift by a donor.
The Crusaders (6-11 overall), who already have their most victories since it went 7-19 in 2005, return to action when they start the Patriot League season with two conference matches at the Holy Cross Field House. On Friday, Sept. 24, the Crusaders will take on Lafayette at 7:00 p.m., while they will then play Lehigh on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 2:00 p.m.
